Ep. 23 Fulfill Your Goal To Start Your Business: 3 Mindset Tips To Start Your Business

Welcome back to the show. Today’s episode is an Encore episode of a workshop that I taught not too long ago that spoke to the mindset and three of the thoughts in particular that tend to hold creatives and aspiring entrepreneurs from actually starting their business.

I want to [00:01:00] share this on the podcast today because I don’t think I’ve met an aspiring entrepreneur yet. That has not had these kinds of thoughts come up for them prior to opening their business. And I want to talk about it because these thoughts are so normal, they are almost like, you know, if you were going to have thoughts that stood in your way from opening your business, these are the three thoughts that you want to make sure you overcome.

And that includes myself. So I hope you enjoy this episode, please rate, subscribe, and review and let me know what you think after you. Listen. It’s a short one, but it’s so good. All right. Let’s head into the episode.

Sonja: So hello everyone. I’m super excited to talking about the three common blocks that most emerging entrepreneurs will face. And we’re going to talk about like how to overcome it.

Sonja: Because we focus a [00:02:00] lot and talk about, what we want, the goal and the vision. But a lot of people don’t tell you kind of what to expect. , and I want to do that because it’s super important for you to have an idea so that when these things pop up, you’re like, Oh, okay, I recognize that.

Sonja: So one of the most common blocks that an emerging entrepreneur in particular is a skewed perception.

Sonja: When I talk about that, I’m saying the way you see things and the way you see your options and what’s available to you.

Sonja: So. If I ask you, like I’m asking you now, why haven’t you started the business? You know, what stood in your way? Why aren’t you actively working on it?

Sonja: A lot of the, [answers] that I get are things like, right now it’s just not a good time, I have so much going on right now. And, you know, once things calm down, you know, I’ll be in a better position to do X, Y, Z.. Or Right now [00:03:00] money isn’t the best I’d like it to be, or right now my resources aren’t ideal.

Sonja: So, I’ve been afraid to insert goal, insert business concept, idea, et cetera. And that perception is rooted in This is not going to work for me because, you know, I’m looking at these things and this is looking scary. It’s like not ideal. But the truth is your resources and what’s available to you ‘ is really, really infinite.

Sonja: Now, you might be saying, Sonia, how could my time be infinite?

Sonja: Listen, I understand that we all have the same 24 hours in a day. But the beauty of any business that you’re trying to build or that you’re currently operating is that it’s yours and you absolutely have the right and you have the authority to build it around circumstances, schedules, timing, that really works best for you. You can design these things around what works[00:04:00] for you.

Sonja: And once you have that as a perception, as a way of viewing things, then you start to see, Oh, Okay, maybe I can.

Sonja: And it’s the same thing for money or other resources. It’s not about waiting until your money is perfect because let me know when that has ever happened

Sonja: When it comes to like money and resources Every time someone tells me they can’t, when we start working together, we find it. We find the resources. Oh, you don’t have it? Well, actually when we start digging into kind of where you are putting your resources, you do.

Sonja: And you start to see that it’s all about your choices. It’s about what are you choosing to put your resources in. How are you choosing to use your time? You know, who are you allowing to override and occupy your time? All of those things and more. So one of the common blocks, you guys, again is your perception.

Sonja: But that is [00:05:00] also directly related. A lot of times that skew perception is usually really closely associated with a perfectionist personality.

Sonja: Unfortunately, the need to be perfect, makes you say that things have to be in a certain order, and done in a certain time frame, and done a certain way in order for it to be successful. What’s right for person a Could be completely Not right for person B.

Sonja: So it’s super important that when you are implementing with a coach that you are Curating and implementing strategies based on who you are, what your circumstances are, so you can know what’s right for you and not just, oh, well, this isn’t right, because what it should look like.

Sonja: Perfection becomes a block because Your perception is telling you it has to be a certain way, look a certain way.

Sonja: When the reality is, is that doing [00:06:00] things out of perfection mode, and learning how to stay committed to the goal, the process helps you build the muscle called confidence or courage so that you can learn to trust your gut so that next time, the next thing that you’re working on, you’re not stuck on are things perfect.

Sonja: And the third most common block for emerging entrepreneurs, you guys is procrastination. I teach and talk a lot about habit stacking. When you stack things and layer them instead of trying to attack everything at once you’ll be amazed at how How much you can actually get done in a less overwhelming way.

Sonja: So procrastination is like that third tier on a cake and they’re all connected. Because when you are waiting on things to be perfect, when you think it can’t be done in this way or that way both of those things create procrastination.

Sonja: [00:07:00] It keeps you talking about what you’re going to do instead of doing it. It’s the reason why some of you have been talking about a business for the last six months and It’s still a dream.

Sonja: Procrastination looks like being stuck. So if you’ve ever felt or said out loud “oh my god, I really want to do this. I just feel stuck” a lot of times That’s procrastination.

Sonja: There is a point where you have to stop talking about a thing, stop thinking about a thing, and start doing some actions.

Sonja: The quicker you do a thing, you can evaluate, yes, this works, no, this doesn’t, oh, I like that, I didn’t like this part, I can revamp, I can remove, I can tweak and adjust, or I can start over and come up with something altogether different, but we can’t do that if you’re stuck in waiting and Being perfect and not able to see all that is available to you, to you and to all of us [00:08:00] all the time, um, by simply being aware and, and almost like checking yourself and saying, okay, hey, all right, you know what, I wrote this down three months ago.

Sonja: I wrote this down a year ago. I’m still there. Why am I procrastinating? You know, maybe I have perfectionism. Maybe I have some mindset blocks that need to be removed.

And maybe this is where I need some additional help, another set of eyes so that I can see. All the potential around the goal of starting my business versus all the pitfalls. So those are the three thoughts that typically keep a lot of people from starting their business. And if you are one of those folks out there, you are one in millions. Trust me. Don’t feel like it’s just you. It’s not, I have even had those feelings in the very beginning stages. Of becoming an entrepreneur and even still [00:09:00] after opening, owning and operating five businesses, I can tell you. I have to stay on top of those kinds of thoughts.

When I noticed them, I now have tools to help me reframe those thoughts so that I can get out of the procrastination so that I can change my perception. And I don’t wait or try to make myself or my circumstances perfect before I move forward.
